Does Size Really Matter? Answering This Age Old Question Once and For All! | Atlanta Wedding Planner
Does size really matter? “Of what??” you ask.
...The size of your bridal party, also dubbed wedding party.
I’ll answer that in a second but first, let’s define who should be included in your bridal party count. Contrary to popular belief, a bridal party is not just bridesmaids and groomsmen. An entire bridal party consists of:
Maid/Matron of honor and best man;
Bridesmaids and groomsmen;
Parents and grandparents;
Ushers and readers;
Flower girl and ring bearer;
An officiant: and
Any other roles you decide to include due to cultural norms or your specific needs
And my-oh-my can the count of bridal party members go from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye!
Now, as you’re selecting your bridal party members, you may have questions like “how many bridesmaids should I have?”, “do I have to have the same amount of bridesmaids and groomsmen?”, How many is too many in terms of a bridal party? or even “do I have to invite my fiancés siblings to be a part of the bridal party”
Unfortunately, all of these questions are relative but a good filter I like to give is one question you can ask yourself which is: “would I personally regret not having this individual play a big role in my wedding?”
Each of the questions above also has an affect on the size of your bridal party. So, does size really matter? My answer is YES! The size of your bridal party matters quite a bit. In fact, not only can it affect your budget but it can also have a big affect on your sanity throughout the planning process and most importantly on your wedding day.
Here are a couple of things to consider before selecting your bridal party members.
Working With a Large Group of People
In most cases, the more cooks you have in the kitchen, the more of a fire hazard you will have. The truth is that the more people you include in your bridal party, the more work it will take to make sure everyone is on the same page and everything flows together as planned.
If this doesn’t sound like something you want to deal with, have you ever thought about not having a bridal party at all? It's not mandatory. In fact, my brother is getting married in August next year (whooo!) and he and his fiancé decided only to have ushers and an officiant in their wedding party. That’s right, no bridesmaids or groomsmen or flower girl or ring bearer. Which I think is brilliant. Not only does this cut out all of the back and forth of having to coordinate with so many people (I have 3 sisters and we all live in three different states) but the wedding ceremony will truly be 110% focused on them.
Every additional person that you add to your bridal party will inevitably drive up costs for you somewhere in your budget. Think of costs like transportation, gifts, bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, props, etc. This can
Lastly, before we part today, don’t feel obligated to include everyone. It’s OK to have a small bridal party or, HECK, no bridal party at all. It’s your wedding day create your day anyway you see fit.
Until next Thursday!! Stay warm and stay inspired.
